Removed means the output scan did not find the same eligible value. Preserved includes technical structure and content retained by the cleaner. Residual means a field remains or appeared in the output: read its value before sharing.
An incomplete or blocked cleanup is not a successful result. Keep the source and read the failed check. Verification only covers what the parser can inspect; it does not prove every hidden record is gone.
Check the output format and warnings, then open or play the downloaded file. A new hash is expected after metadata changes. Visible text, speech, attachments and the filename need a separate privacy check.
Images: check XMP, IPTC and text fields as well as EXIF. Dimensions, orientation and color profiles may be needed for correct display; they are not automatically private leftovers.
Inspect the source, remove supported writable fields, then verify the new copy. ViewExif works locally and reports what was removed, preserved, or still present instead of promising that every tag can disappear.
Inspect→Remove→Verify
Remove writable EXIF records, including camera / lens information and device or serial details when the file exposes them.
Clear stored coordinates and capture timestamps so a shared copy does not carry the original place or time when those fields are writable.
Target XMP, IPTC, captions, author, copyright, and other descriptive photo fields without changing the visible image.
Remove comments, software names, and editing information that can reveal how the image was created or processed.
Photos can carry GPS, owner names, serial numbers, edit history, and stale previews long after the pixels look harmless.
Remove writable identity, location, software, date, and custom fields without transcoding the actual file.
Clean one file Proof after cleanupThe generated copy is parsed again at the same depth. Removed, preserved, and residual fields stay separate.
See verification Keep the sourceThe original never changes. Save the clean copy and a safe JSON record of every output check.
View metadata firstChoose an image, review its detected metadata, remove supported writable fields locally, then let ViewExif reopen and verify the generated copy before download.
Select one supported JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, or GIF. The source stays in this browser tab.
Check the original report for EXIF, GPS, camera, lens, timestamps, XMP, IPTC, comments, and software fields.
The image cleanup engine removes writable descriptive fields while preserving pixels, dimensions, color, orientation, and animation as required.
ViewExif reopens and rescans the output, then separates removed, preserved, and residual metadata before download.

No. This metadata-only tool edits supported metadata blocks while retaining compressed image data, dimensions, orientation, color, and animation.
Writable GPS, owner, camera, lens, serial, XMP, IPTC, EXIF, MakerNote, comment, and hidden-preview records are targeted and then rescanned.
Removing them can change color or rotate the image incorrectly. The report labels them as required technical data rather than claiming they were missed.
Yes. Animation frames, timing, transparency, and looping data are retained. Comments and writable descriptive extensions are removed.
No. Visible pixels and the output filename can still expose people, text, places, screens, reflections, or account information.
Choose an image, review the detected report, create a clean copy, then wait while ViewExif reopens and rescans it before download.
Yes. Writable EXIF and GPS fields are targeted, along with camera, lens, owner, timestamp, XMP, IPTC, comment, and software fields when the format allows it.
No. This remover edits supported metadata blocks without re-encoding the image pixels. Dimensions, color, orientation, and animation are checked again before download.
Not always. Required technical fields such as ICC color, orientation, dimensions, or container structure may remain and are listed as preserved or residual.
No. The original, cleanup, and verification scan stay inside this browser tab. ViewExif creates a new local copy and leaves the source unchanged.
