GPS / location
Writable GPS coordinates and location strings when the video container exposes them.
Remove metadata from MP4, MOV and other video files directly in your browser. Clean GPS location, creation dates, device details, encoder information, titles, comments and other supported metadata without uploading your video.

Choose a fileRemoved means the output scan did not find the same eligible value. Preserved includes technical structure and content retained by the cleaner. Residual means a field remains or appeared in the output: read its value before sharing.
An incomplete or blocked cleanup is not a successful result. Keep the source and read the failed check. Verification only covers what the parser can inspect; it does not prove every hidden record is gone.
Check the output format and warnings, then open or play the downloaded file. A new hash is expected after metadata changes. Visible text, speech, attachments and the filename need a separate privacy check.
Video: duration and codec describe playback. Container dates need not be filming dates. Cleanup does not remove subtitles, speech or images in the frames.
ViewExif targets supported writable fields, then reopens and rescans the generated copy. Required container facts, media tracks, and anything the format cannot safely rewrite are listed as preserved or residual.

Writable GPS coordinates and location strings when the video container exposes them.
Creation and modification dates that are descriptive rather than required for playback.
Camera, phone, recorder, owner, and device labels when they are stored as writable fields.
Encoder names, handler labels, authoring applications, and editing software tags.
Writable title, comment, description, copyright, and custom descriptive fields.
Supported MP4, QuickTime, Matroska, WebM, AVI, FLV, 3GP, and 3G2 container labels.
MP4 and QuickTime files can carry descriptive boxes beside their encoded streams. The cleaner removes only fields its format-specific engine can safely rewrite.
Clean supported ISO Base Media File Format titles, comments, dates, location labels, device details, encoder names, and custom descriptive boxes without re-encoding the tracks.
Clean writable QuickTime dates, location strings, camera or device descriptions, handler labels, comments, and authoring software while preserving the video and audio streams.
Video containers can name the authoring app, device, owner, location, and edit dates without showing any of it in playback.
Remove writable identity, location, software, date, and custom fields without transcoding the actual file.
Clean one file Proof after cleanupThe generated copy is parsed again at the same depth. Removed, preserved, and residual fields stay separate.
See verification Keep the sourceThe original never changes. Save the clean copy and a safe JSON record of every output check.
View metadata firstInspect the original, remove supported writable metadata in this browser tab, then ViewExif reopens and rescans the generated copy before download.
Select one supported MP4, M4V, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, FLV, 3GP, or 3G2 file. Its bytes remain in this browser tab.
Check the original report for GPS, dates, device labels, encoder details, titles, comments, and technical fields.
A container-specific engine removes writable descriptive fields without re-encoding the video or audio tracks.
The copy is reopened, compared, and rescanned. Removed, preserved, and residual fields are shown before download is enabled.

No. The tool edits container metadata only. Encoded tracks and frames are preserved, and a changed duration, codec, dimension, or track fact blocks download.
Writable titles, authors, comments, locations, software, device labels, dates, copyright, XMP, and custom container tags are targeted.
No. The selected metadata-only policy preserves chapters, subtitle tracks, attachments, cover art, and other user-visible content.
Some ISO BMFF values are required to address tracks or decode media. The rescan lists these as structural or residual instead of calling them removed.
No. Frames and audio can still reveal faces, voices, signs, locations, screens, captions, or account details.
It is a browser tool that creates a new video copy by removing supported writable descriptive fields while preserving the encoded media and required container structure.
Choose the MP4 above, review its original metadata, create a clean copy, then wait while ViewExif reopens and rescans the output before download.
Yes. Some cameras and recording apps write GPS coordinates or location strings into MP4 containers. ViewExif removes supported writable location fields and reports anything that remains.
No. This cleaner does not re-encode video or audio. It compares duration, codecs, dimensions, tracks, and other technical facts; a mismatch blocks the download.
Not always. Required track, timing, codec, or container fields may need to stay. The result separates removed, preserved, and residual metadata instead of claiming everything was erased.
No. The original, generated copy, and verification scan stay inside this browser tab. ViewExif does not post the video, filename, or metadata to a server.
